Services Available Through Your Student's CommunityThe student community is your student's advising office, but it is much more -- it is made up of staff and fellow students who share academic interests. Keeping in touch with the student community will help your student stay in touch with what's happening in CLA as well as what he or she needs to do to graduate! Here are some services your student's community offers: Adviser AppointmentsStudents can make an appointment with their adviser to discuss their plans, decisions, and questions one-on-one, and to find out what they need to do to finish their degree and prepare for life after college. Students can also meet with a peer adviser for help with course planning. Your student can go to the main CLA Student Services Advising Web and click on their community to find contact information to schedule an appointment. They can also schedule certain types of appointments via the web at cla uLook. Walk-In AdvisingStudents can stop in to see a walk-in adviser when they have a quick question (walk-in sessions are limited to 5-10 minutes), need help with course planning, or want a copy of their APAS report (also known as a degree audit). If the walk-in adviser can't help your student with his or her situation, he or she will help your student find a resource that can. Information Sessions and WorkshopsCLA student communities offer a variety of information sessions and workshops to help undergraduates learn more about programs and opportunities and to meet other students with similar interests. E-mailA student's University-assigned e-mail account is the University's official means of communicating with him or her. Students are responsible for all the information sent to them via this account, so they should check it frequently. They can use it to ask their adviser a brief question, but they cannot use it to schedule an advising appointment (advising appointments can, however, be scheduled online using our uLook system). Your student's adviser and community will also use this e-mail to send information about upcoming events, deadlines, and opportunities. TelephoneStudents can call their student community to schedule adviser appointments, sign up for group sessions, or ask brief questions. Student Access ComputersStudents can use the computers in their student community to check their e-mail and look up academic information on the web.
