Student Life

A Stone's Throw Away

A walk, bike ride, or bus will connect your student to the best the Twin Cities has to offer: sporting, entertainment, shopping, dining, and recreation opportunities. Local neighborhoods like Dinkytown, Stadium Village, Seven Corners, Uptown, Lyn-Lake, and Como feature coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, a variety of shops and services, theaters, and clubs for students' tastes and budgets.

Sports, Arts, and Recreation

Sports fans can cheer for more than the Minnesota Gophers. The Twin Cities are home to the Vikings, Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, Lynx, and Thunder.

Theatre lovers can choose from dozens of stages including at the University's Rarig Center. Local theaters include the renowned Guthrie, the Historic State Theatre, Orpheum, Pantages, the Ordway Center, Theatre in the Round, and the Children's Theater.

Art lovers will find outstanding collections and host travelling collections from around the world. To name just a few: The Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the University's Weisman Art Museum.

Your student will find plenty of space for exercise and relaxation, both indoors and out. The University's Recreational Sports center has some of the finest facilities in the nation. In spring, summer, and fall, the Mississippi River and the lakes provide places to rollerblade, bike, or jog. With winter comes snowboarding and skiing on the many local slopes and cross-country trails.

Getting Involved and Learning to Lead

Diverse student groups, activities, and programs provide ways for your student to connect with others on campus. Opportunities for involvement and leadership abound. The Student Activities Office is one way your student can make the connection.

Quality of Life

With all this it comes as no surprise that since 1997, Minnesota has been ranked the "Most Livable State" in the country by Morgan Quitno Press, an independent private research publishing company. Job growth, strong education, and low crime rates, are a few of the reasons why.
