CLA Student Services

The University is a large institution, but it doesn't have to be confusing. Together with our partners across campus, CLA Student Services works to map the University in a way that helps students set their goals, connect with resources, and stay on track.

CLA Student Services provides a full range of support opportunities to meet the needs of our undergraduates. Although our various offices serve different functions, they share a common goal: the success of your student. The following is a breif description of our student services offices and the work they do.

The "front door" to Student Services is the Student Information Office where students find a full range of services, including help with orientation and registration, advising referrals, applications for degree, and general problem solving.

In the Student Communities, your student will find advising teams -- college adviser, peer adviser, major adviser, and career adviser -- as well as fellow students who share a common academic interest. Your student will find a place within one of the following communities: Arts, Honors-CLA, Communications & Media, Health & Natural Sciences, Languages & Mathematics, Martin Luther King, Jr. Program, Psychological Sciences, Social Sciences, or Society & Culture.

If your student wants a uniquely-designed degree, the Individualized Degree Programs provides a way to combine courses from three departments into a unifying theme. Though flexible, requirements for these degrees are structured to achieve clear educational goals. Many recent IDP graduates report that they were able to enter advanced degree programs such as the M.B.A., Ph.D, and J.D. and have received a positive response from employers.

Community involvement, service-learning opportunities, and exchanges to other U.S. campuses provide some of the ways to enrich the student experience. The Career and Community Learning Center (CCLC) connects students with opportunities through the partnerships it maintains with employers and other community partners. CCLC helps students choose a career, find a job, apply to graduate or professional school, and prepare for the world of work.

The Office of the Assistant Dean coordinates and directs the work of Student Services as a whole. This office also has specialized functions, such as student standing and conduct, as well as connecting and working with campus partners to support undergraduates.
